For writing:
VOICE RECORDING - the simple process of
recording thoughts, ideas and information allows students to
document information in verbal form rather than written form.
SPEECH RECOGNITION - words can be
translated into text and used to control the computer.
|
|
For reading:
TEXT TO SPEECH - is a widely available and
affordable option.
RECORDED AUDIO BOOKS - are becoming
mainstream and therefore increasingly available and cost
effective. |

For students who have print or writing disabilities,
or who are unable to read text on a page or hold the page to read or a
pen to write, LISTENING and TALKING might be the key to learning and
achievement for them. |
|
In this digital age, and in working with students with
disabilities who may be unable to read, or unable to hold the book to
read, we need to shift our focus. Instead of using the age-old
'reading-text-on-a-page' method of learning, let's investigate the many
exciting options we have available now due to new technology growth!
|
|
Books and information can be adapted in many different
ways. There are almost limitless ways to create and to use adapted
materials, sound, text files and computer based media and information. |
|
Podcasting, RSS feeds, mp3 books, overdrive
books, Daisy format audiobooks, e-books, voice recorders .....
these are all technologies and methods that are developing
rapidly. We need to be aware o these new technologies and
how they can benefit our students! |
